Machine shop floors are the hardest floors in any factory to keep clean, and it's not close. Coolant splashes out of every machine, metal chips scatter underfoot, and oil finds its way to places you'd never expect. The machines can't be moved for a "proper" cleaning, so the floor gets cleaned around them — or not at all. But a machine shop floor doesn't have to look like a war zone. With the right daily routine and the right equipment, you can keep CNC areas safe, presentable, and audit-ready without stopping production.

Each one needs a different treatment, and the order matters. Sweep the chips before you scrub the liquid — never the other way around.

Machine shops are tight, so machine size matters as much as cleaning power:
Never run a scrubber over loose chips. Sweep first, then scrub — the machine recovers liquid, not sharp metal.
When a coolant spill does happen, absorb it fast — it's slippery and it stains. The steps are in our spill response guide.

No. Sweep or dry vacuum the chips first. Running a scrubber over loose chips scratches the floor and clogs the machine. The scrubber's job is the coolant and oil film, not the metal.
Absorb it with pads or granules, then scrub the film with clean water and a disc brush. Coolant is slippery, so treat it immediately and keep the area marked until dry.
Daily for chips and fresh coolant, with a full aisle scrub each day and a deeper weekly pass around machine bases. The frequency logic is the same as our cleaning frequency guide.
Sweep them before they get walked on, and keep chip guards and trays on the machines. Chips only scratch when they're ground underfoot.
Machine shop floors are hard to clean because of three things — coolant, chips, and oil — and all three are manageable with the right order: sweep, spot-clean, scrub. Keep machines contained, sweep chips before they get ground in, and let a compact walk-behind like the A3 handle the daily aisle pass. For bigger shops, the A7 ride-on earns its keep. Combined with the streaks guide and the loading dock guide, your shop floors stay safe and presentable through every shift.
